What is OPAL?
SUPPORTING YOUR COMMUNITY TO EAT WELL AND BE ACTIVE
OPAL is about everyone in our community working together to create all kinds of ways to enjoy eating well and have fun being active. It is a program funded by State and Federal Government together with The Coorong District Council.
Coorong OPAL began in October 2012 and will continue for the next 5 years, the way OPAL comes to life in each community will depend on your input and enthusiasm. New information about healthy eating and physical activity will regularly be provided to help you make healthy choices in your life.
Whether you are a community member, community group, local business owner, parent or carer, OPAL is here to meet your needs as a community, so feel free to contact the Coorong OPAL team! There will be opportunities for everyone - so look out for OPAL in your community!!

Mayor's Pedometer Challenge
Participants can enter as an individual, as a business/club team or as part of your school. Prizes will be awarded in each category. Why not get involved and walk yourself to a healthier future. Message from the mayor, "What's not to love about walking? It's free and helps you feel stronger, more energetic and happier. Join me in Active August as I aim for 10,000 steps per day and make Coorong District community a healthy communuity." Click Here to find out more.
Make it a Fresh Snack.
Make it a fresh snack encourages children, teenagers and parents to make good choices when it comes to eating between meals. Well-chosen snacks can provide the opportunity for children to get the energy and nutrients they require for healthy growth and development.

OPAL have a number of resources that are available to local schools, kindergartens and also community groups. Resources that are available include: Mobile Skate Ramp, Giant Games, Smoothie Bike, Imagination Playground and Geocaching Kits. Click Here to find out more.
