The Coorong District Council, in partnership with the Rural City of Murray Bridge and Mid Murray Councils has been successful in securing grant funding to start construction of a new regional walking trail, named the Murray Coorong Trail.
The Murray Coorong Trail, which is expected to bring significant tourism and recreation benefits to the region, will look to cater for walking, cycling and horse riding where possible.
A feasibility study of the Murray Coorong Trail has already been completed and outlines a route which travels some 450km from Cadell to Salt Creek, and as close as possible to the River Murray.
As the trail is long it will be developed in stages. The Coorong District Council has committed to begin development of stage 1, from Meningie to Seven Mile Loop Rd, and a significant upgrade of stage 4 which incorporates the existing River Bend Heritage Trail from Tailem Bend to Wellington East.
Detailed maps of stage 1 are currently being developed and will soon be available for community consultation.
The Coorong District Council’s, Murray Coorong Trail project team invites you to be involved in providing feedback on the route and if you are interested testing sections of the proposed trail. We are also interested in hearing from you if you know of any geographical or historical tourism sites of interest that would be worth promoting as part of the trail.
If you would like more information and be kept up to date with the project, please forward your name and contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will add you to the ‘Friends of the Murray Coorong Trail’ database.
To discuss the trail with a member of the Murray Coorong Trail project team please contact 1300 785 277.
