Dickson Reserve - Funding Received for New Multi-Purpose Floating Pontoon

Council is pleased to announce that it has received funding through the SA Boating Facilities Fund to enable the construction of additional boating infrastructure at Dickson Reserve, Tailem Bend. The funding received represents 52% of the total project cost.

As part of Council’s long term vision for Dickson Reserve it has been investigating ways to maximise the use of the area through improving facilities such as shelters, barbecues, houseboat mooring areas, parking and foreshore improvements. The vision for the area, expressed through Council’s Strategic Management Plan, has very specifically targeted opportunities to present a river-township interface zone to enable both recreational and business related boat users to easily come ashore in Tailem Bend.

The construction of the pontoon in accordance with the plans below will enable a vessel of up to 22.5 metres to safely berth. The new facility will also cater for a number of smaller boats.

With funding for this project having been announced by Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Local Government, Council is now working through the background requirements to enable construction of this valuable community asset. Subject to grant terms, it is envisioned that construction will start mid-year.

Tailem Bend - New Public Toilet Amenities

Displayed below are plans that materially show the toilet re-development which will be constructed in Tailem Bend shortly. The project was adopted as part of works to be carried out by Coorong District Council in 2018/2019.

The internal layout and external materials are as shown in the artist rendering attached below. It is noted that further work is being done on the roof overhang which will be squared off (the architect has provided a different version which was previously being considered).

As shown, the facilities will accommodate 7 toilet cubicles in the female area, a fully compliant DDA toilet facility, and 5 toilet cubicles as well as a urinal in the male area. The facility will also host modern parent facilities.

The goal of the toilets re-development is to ensure that the facilities can achieve many years of low cost use while catering for increasing visitation to the region. The toilet block will be situated so as not to impact in any way on the surrounding trees.

As final plans and background processes are completed, it is envisioned that construction will commence shortly.

Meningie North Jetty - Funding Applied for Jetty Upgrade and Floating Pontoon Project

The federal Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources recently announced an opportunity for communities identified as most impacted by water recovery under the Basin Plan to apply for grant funding through the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program - the program offers grants to deliver economic development projects in affected areas.

Coorong District Council has applied for $500,000 funding to upgrade the Meningie North Jetty (located at the Meningie Sailing Club). If successful, the funding received will cover 100% of the project costs.

The jetty upgrade and boat mooring facility plan includes an extension to the existing jetty, with an 85 metre concrete floating pontoon installed at its end. The new facility will be able to accommodate a maximum of sixteen 12 metre long vessels and will operate on a 'first come, first served' basis.

At this stage Council is still awaiting notification of the grant outcome.

Attached below is a concept plan for the new facility.
