Meningie North Jetty Upgrade

In March 2019, Council submitted a grant application under the Federal Government's Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program to improve the Meningie foreshore and create economic opportunities for the town, namely an upgrade to the Meningie North Jetty (located at the Meningie Sailing Club). The Council project has resulted from work undertaken by the Lakes Activation Group, which included wide community consultation over a number of years from 2013.

Marine Engineers have produced a jetty upgrade and boat mooring facility plan for an extension to the existing jetty with ability to berth a maximum of sixteen, 12m long vessels.

The new facility will operate on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and accommodate recreational vessels moored by regional visitors and tourists. It is estimated that 750 boats would access this facility over a year with a stay of approximately 3 days.

The estimated project cost, subject to tender, is $540,000, mainly funded through successfully gaining $500,000 (through the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program).

The application had strong community support from: Meningie Sailing Club, Boating Industry Association, Meningie Area School, Meningie Hotel, Federal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP, State Member for MacKillop Nick McBride MP, Regional Development Australia Murraylands & Riverland and the South Australian Tourism Commission.

Prior to finalising detailed design and documentation, Council has convened a public meeting to be held in Meningie on 26 November 2019, to receive further community comment and input.

Final plans and commencement of work is anticipated in the first half of 2020.
