Coorong community groups can now apply for up to $5,000 in funding for worthwhile local projects and events, as round one of Coorong District Council’s Community Grants program for 2020-21 is now open.

Mayor Paul Simmons is pleased to announce the launch of this year’s Community Grants program following a 12 month break and a review of the program’s policy which has resulted in a fresh approach.

“Since 2005, the program has contributed over $600,000 in support of more than 160 projects across the district – Council is always keen to get behind projects and events that support community development and add to the vibrancy of the community,” Mayor Simmons said.

“Enthusiastic and proactive groups often just need that little extra financial leg up to achieve great things for our community.”

Community groups involved in local sport and recreation activities, cultural activities, community development, and social and welfare activities may be eligible to apply for grants between $1,000 and $5,000 in one of three categories; Small Community Grants, Community Event Grants, and Community Project Grants.

“If you have a community project or event that is inclusive, encourages wide participation, creates a sense of community pride or stimulates economic growth, I encourage groups to plan their grant application early and read the policy and supporting documentation,” Mayor Simmons said.

“We are also welcoming applications for Individual, Sport & Cultural Grants which are open year round.”

Applications are due at 5:00pm on Friday, 25 September 2020. Applicants can apply online or download the application package and find more information on Council’s website.

Council’s Community Development Team is also available to discuss proposed projects or events with applicants by phoning 1300 785 277, or emailing council@coorong.sa.gov.au.
