Draft Community Engagement Policy

Have Your Say: Draft Community Engagement Policy

We’re reviewing how we engage with our community and we want your input.

Our Draft Community Engagement Policy sets out how Council will inform, consult and involve our community in decision-making. It’s all about making sure your voice is heard and helps shape the future of our district.

At Council, we believe better decisions happen when the community is involved. That means making sure you have clear information, easy ways to give feedback, and enough time to share your thoughts. We also want you to know that your feedback matters and will be carefully considered before decisions are made. Council is committed to being open, honest and easy to understand when working with the community.

This policy is for everyone who connects with our area whether you live here, work here, run a business, visit, or take part in local groups and activities. Your experiences and ideas all help shape the future of our district.

What does the policy cover?

The draft policy explains how Council will keep improving the way we engage. This includes using plain language, offering different ways for people to take part, and making sure the level of engagement matches how big or important a decision is. It also means closing the loop by letting you know how your feedback was used and why decisions were made.

The policy explains how Council will:

  • Share information in plain, simple language
  • Give you enough time to respond
  • Use different ways for people to take part
  • Listen to what the community says
  • Show how your feedback helped shape decisions
