Coonalpyn Changing Places Toilet

Project Background

Coorong District Council is upgrading the public toilet facilities at Coonalpyn to deliver a modern, inclusive amenity for the community.

The new building will feature a Changing Places toilet, a fully accessible, purpose-built facility designed to support people with high support needs and their carers. See below for more information about what a Changing Places toilet looks like.

This upgrade reflects Council’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure and aligns with the priorities outlined in Council's Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. The facility will also include DDA-compliant amenities, ambulant toilets, and standard unisex toilets.

Once the new amenities are operational, the existing toilet block will be demolished and the area reinstated as parkland.

Works to be Completed – Coonalpyn Toilet Upgrade

Works commenced in September 2025, starting with the removal of two Aleppo pines (declared weeds) and one Sugar gum, followed by wastewater system upgrades and electrical modifications to support the new build.

These works will be followed with the  construction of the Changing Places toilet facility over the coming months once these preparatory works are complete.

Please note: Once the new facilities have been constructed and the old ones have been demolished the location of the original toilet block will be returned to green space. The mural wall in front of the current toilet block will not be affected and will remain in place.
