Pangarinda Botanic Garden Future Vision Plan

Pangarinda Botanic Garden is situated at Wellington East on the banks of the River Murray. Initiated as an Arboretum in 1993 on what was severely degraded Crown Land, it is managed by a Section 41 Committee of Council and a Council-managed volunteer group. In the last 30 years, this group of committed volunteers have worked tirelessly at Pangarinda to convert over 25 hectares of degraded land into what is now a well recognised native botanical garden, where hundreds of threatened native plant species thrive.

It had been previously identified that development of a Pangarinda Botanic Garden Future Vision Plan was required to provide a framework for both day-to-day operational activities, and strategically build visitor appeal, preserve cultural history and botanical knowledge, nurture meaningful volunteer support and engagement, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the gardens.

By identifying future actions and setting priorities, the Pangarinda Botanic Garden Future Vision Plan aims to provide a basis for Coorong District Council’s resource planning and investment. Central to this are the issues and opportunities identified for Pangarinda, balanced against the resources required.

The Pangarinda Botanic Garden: The Next 20 years Future Vision Plan was adopted by Council on 17 September 2024.
