CEO to Embark on New Chapter After Successful Tenure
After six deeply rewarding years of transformational leadership, Bridget Mather will conclude her term as Chief Executive Officer of Coorong District Council in January 2026.
Since joining the Council in 2020, Ms Mather has led the organisation through a period of significant growth, innovation and transformation, positioning it as a recognised leader in regional local government.
Under her leadership, the Council has delivered major milestones that include the Wellington East potable water project (endorsed this week), the sealing and upgrade of Carcuma Road, a comprehensive report into early childhood education and care, a credible assessment by regulatory body ESCOSA of the Council’s financial performance, and development of a forward-looking Growth Strategy and Investment Prospectus – while also guiding the district through critical drought response initiatives.
Ms Mather’s guidance has strengthened the Council’s position within the local government sector and built a resilient, capable team ready to meet the future with confidence.
Coorong District Council’s Mayor Paul Simmons expressed his gratitude for Ms Mather’s leadership and contribution.
“We thank Bridget for her dedication, vision and commitment to the Coorong community. Her impact on the organisation has been profound, and she leaves the Council well-positioned for continued success,” said Mayor Paul Simmons.
“We wish her every success as she moves into a new chapter focused on community and volunteer endeavours.”
Reflecting on her time at Coorong District Council, Ms Mather said she is proud of what has been achieved together.
“It has been a privilege to lead such a passionate and committed team. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved – working through challenges and delivering outcomes that make a lasting difference for our community,” said Ms Mather.
“My decision comes at a natural point of transition as we approach the November 2026 local government elections and begin shaping the Council’s 2026-2030 Community Strategic Vision Plan. This is the right moment for new leadership to build on the strong foundations we’ve established together.”
The Council will commence a recruitment process shortly to appoint a new CEO to continue building on the organisation’s solid foundation and guide it into its next phase of growth.
