Coorong District Council has adopted its Community Vision Plan 2026–2030, a roadmap shaped by local voices that sets the direction for the district over the next four years.

The Plan reflects what people across the Coorong have said matters most to them — strong and connected communities, well‑maintained infrastructure, a healthy environment, a resilient local economy and effective leadership.

Coorong District Council’s Acting Mayor Cr. Jonathan Pietzsch said the plan was a powerful example of what can be achieved when the community is actively involved in shaping the future of the district.

“This plan genuinely belongs to the community,” Cr. Pietzsch said.

“It reflects what people have told us they value about living in the Coorong, what they want protected, and what they’d like to see improved over the coming years.”

The Community Vision Plan is the council’s key strategic document which guides how the council plans, invests and delivers services, while ensuring decisions today support the long‑term wellbeing of the district.

Community input was gathered around five key themes — Infrastructure, Environment, Economy, Community and Leadership — ensuring a broad and balanced picture of local priorities.

The strong level of community involvement in developing this plan makes it unique, with more than 575 people contributing ideas and feedback through the two stages of engagement.

The Council’s Acting Mayor observed that the response demonstrated how strongly residents care about the future of their communities.

“People were generous with their time and honest with their feedback,” Cr. Pietzsch said.

“We heard about the pride people feel in their towns, the challenges they see, and their hopes for future generations. That feedback has directly shaped this plan.

“This document gives our Council a clear line of sight between what the community wants and how we plan, prioritise and invest. And it ensures our decisions are not just reactive, but thoughtful and future‑focused.”

The Community Vision Plan 2026–2030 replaces the previous four-year plan and sets out a clear vision and mission for the district, supported by strategic objectives and outcomes.

While the plan looks ahead, it is grounded in practical action. Projects and initiatives flowing from the plan will be considered through Council’s annual budget and planning processes, with longer‑term investments included in the council’s 10‑year financial and infrastructure plans.

The Community Vision Plan 2026–2030 is now available to view on Coorong District Council’s website.
