Coorong District Council is inviting public comment on its draft 2022-2027 Footpath Network Expansion Strategy.

Coorong District Council Mayor Paul Simmons looks forward to the community sharing their views on the draft Strategy.

“Footpaths play an essential role in our community’s health and wellbeing – they connect us to services, community facilities and shared open spaces – so it’s important to ensure Coorong footpaths are serving our community’s unique needs,” says Mayor Paul Simmons.

A gap analysis of Coorong District Council’s footpath network – which spans some 18.8 kilometres of all-weather constructed footpath – was recently conducted across Coorong townships.

The gap analysis has highlighted some areas of improvement which have been captured in the draft Footpath Network Expansion Strategy.

The draft document sets the criteria and structure to guide the expansion of the Council’s current footpath network in a systematic and financially sustainable approach.

To make Coorong communities more liveable, better connected and encourage physical activity, a five-year delivery program has been proposed which will ‘close the gap’ to ensure the community’s footpath needs are met.

The draft Strategy includes the proposed funding model and maps of the staged footpath expansion across Meningie, Tailem Bend, Tintinara and Coonalpyn over the next five years.

The draft 2022-2027 Footpath Network Expansion Strategy is now available to view online or in person at any Coorong District Council office during normal office hours. Written submissions are invited until 9am on Wednesday, 9 February 2022.
