Inspiring youth to accept who they are by taking positive steps on changing beliefs around body image will be the focus of a FREE community screening of Embrace Kids being held in Tailem Bend in the first week of January.

The Coorong District Council have joined forces with the Tailem Bend Community Centre and Headspace to deliver a free screening of Embrace Kids. A powerful documentary about children, for children and featuring children from body positivity champion Taryn Brumfitt. Full of child-friendly and often funny messages about being yourself and loving your body, this movie helps children learn how to say no to body-shaming, bullying and stereotypes in the media.

Embrace Kids, explores the world of body image through the eyes of children and covers topics including diversity, social media, photoshopping, the influence of media and positive role models.

Coorong District Council CEO, Bridget Mather said “ We are excited to be working with Headspace and the Tailem Bend Community Centre to be able to bring this free school holiday activity and documentary to our community”.

She continued with “The key message behind the fun filled documentary is that it teaches kids how to build positive body image and embrace uniqueness who you are, be kind to yourself and others”

Equally engaging for both adolescents and their parents, this film inspires, educates and advocates for a world where we are not held back by the thoughts we have about the way we look. Instead, young people are encouraged to figure out what makes them unique and special and use that to spark change.

Featuring Taryn’s network of well-known celebrity friends including Celeste Barber, Jameela Jamil, Electric Fields, along with Chico the family dog, EMBRACE: KIDS brings together a vibrant collection of stories and voices to entertain and inspire kids and parents alike, showing us that the first step in changing the world, is changing your own mind.

A FREE community screening will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, 8th January 2025 at the Tailem Bend Town Hall which will be followed by an afternoon of fun and activities. Registrations are required and those attending will enjoy access to a complimentary lolly bar, popcorn, refreshments and coffee station.
