Media Release

Today, Coorong and Tatiara District Councils and the Coorong Tatiara Local Action Plan (CTLAP) proudly unveil the Coorong Tatiara Soil Hub (www.ctsoilhub.au), a dynamic online platform designed to support farmers in embracing new agricultural practices and fostering sustainable farming in the region.

The Coorong Tatiara Soil Hub serves as a central resource hub, offering project information, research results, resources and factsheets tailored to the unique needs of farmers in the Coorong and Tatiara districts. Developed in collaboration with agricultural experts, researchers, and local stakeholders, the platform aims to empower farmers with the knowledge and tools necessary to enhance productivity and economic outcomes and promote resilience in the face of evolving agricultural challenges.

Key features of www.ctsoilhub.au include:

  • Project Information: detailed insights into ongoing agricultural projects in the Coorong and Tatiara Districts, including research objectives, methodologies, and progress updates, fostering transparency and collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Results: Farmers can access research findings and results directly through the platform, including via an interactive map, gaining valuable insights into the efficacy of various agricultural practices and their potential impact on crop and pasture yields, soil health, and environmental sustainability.
  • Resources: The website will evolve to contain resources, decision support tools, and soil diagnosis guides to support farmers across the region to find information relevant to their landscape and production systems in a timely and efficient manner. Including linkages to new Veldt Grass management resources.
  • Interactive Map: Access to handy soils resources and an interactive map so that you can click on the location and check what has been happening in your patch.
  • Events: The website has a calendar of CTLAP, Farming System Group and Industry events to keep you up to date with what is happening near you.

Coorong District Council Mayor Paul Simmons said "The Coorong Tatiara Soil Hub website represents a significant milestone in our efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and support the farming community in the Coorong, Tatiara and Southern Mallee Districts."

"We are in a warm grazing region. Enabling land managers to improve their understanding of non wetting sands and identify the most economic management options to improve production will lead to improved livestock and mixed farming business and sustainability outcomes across our region."

“We thank Meat and Livestock Australia and the National Landcare Program for their investment in understanding adaptive technologies to manage our unique soil types.”

This valuable platform has been delivered with support from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program. The Coorong Tatiara Soil Hub is now live and accessible to farmers, researchers, and stakeholders at www.ctsoilhub.au.
