Meningie Lions Jubilee Park to be Revitalised
Residents and ratepayers across the Coorong district are encouraged to have their say on a proposed Meningie Lions Jubilee Park revitalisation project, including replacement for the recently removed Pelican Sculpture.
The Meningie Lions Jubilee Park is popular with residents and visitors – especially during the warmer months and public holidays. It provides a welcome stop for those visiting the region and for those people travelling through the region.
Following a condition assessment undertaken on the park shelters and community concerns raised around the aging infrastructure, Council has sought to undertake the replacement of the shelters. The Council will also take the opportunity to revitalise the area surrounding the shelters.
The proposed design for the park revitalisation will see the installation of new picnic shelters, sealing of the car park adjacent to the Meningie Information Hub, a new exercise node and improved and accessible footpaths.
“This project will transform the park and offer a fresh, exciting recreation and play space for residents and visitors to enjoy,” says Coorong District Council’s Mayor Paul Simmons.
“This part of our district is one of the region’s most visited locations for tourists and is situated perfectly to access local businesses and tourism attractions such as the Murray Coorong Trail,” says Mayor Simmons.
“This project will also give the community a chance to have their say on a replacement for the Pelican Sculpture. An iconic part of the streetscape, locals and tourist miss the striking structure and we encourage input from the community around a suitable replacement.”
The community are invited to share their thoughts and ideas on a replacement sculpture as well as provide input into the revitalisation of the Meningie Lions Jubilee Park. Conceptual drawings have been developed and form a basis on which these thoughts and ideas can inspire community aspirations. These ideas will help to guide the direction of the final plans.
Copies of the draft plans are available to view on Coorong District Council’s website and at each Council office (Meningie, Tintinara and Tailem Bend).
Community members are invited to have their say and can provide input by:
