Tintinara Apex Park to be Revitalised

Residents and ratepayers across the Coorong district are encouraged to have their say on an upgrade to the Tintinara Apex Park.

Located right next to the Heart of the Parks tourist information outlet with public amenities and other shops situated close by, the park is a popular stopover for travellers along the Dukes Highway.

Feedback received from community members through recent streetscapes master planning showed that connectivity and pedestrian safety were high priorities in Tintinara, and this feedback has driven the safety, access and aesthetic improvements planned this year for the Tintinara Apex Park.

A new fence and asphalt footpath is planned to be installed next to the railway corridor from the Fulwood Avenue rail crossing to the Tintinara Apex Park. The park itself will be enclosed with a flat top playground fence, and a footpath added to connect visitors from the park to a planned pedestrian crossing over the Dukes Highway.

The project, funded through the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Infrastructure Program, includes an opportunity to update some of the park’s existing BBQ shelters and furniture.

Community members are encouraged to share their ideas on what could be included or added to help revitalise the park. Concept designs have been developed which show the planned footpath and fencing upgrades and provide community members the opportunity to visualise further park elements.

Coorong District Council’s Mayor Paul Simmons encourages the community to view the concept designs and share their ideas on what they would like to see in their local park.

“This project will transform the park into a safe outdoor and play space for residents and visitors to enjoy,” says Mayor Paul Simmons.

“Tintinara is one of the region’s most travelled through towns for tourists visiting our state – providing a safe and welcoming environment for a break is vital to ensuring drivers stay alert and aware on our roads.”

Copies of the draft plans are available to view on Coorong District Council’s website and at each Council office (Meningie, Tintinara and Tailem Bend).
