Council Seeking Feedback on RAA Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Media Release

Coorong District Council is seeking community feedback on its intention to lease community land to the RAA to support the installation of three electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Meningie, Coonalpyn and Tailem Bend.

Together with the South Australian Government, the RAA is currently working with South Australian councils to build a border-to-border network of EV charging stations. The project is part of the government’s investment in South Australia’s vehicle transformation, securing private investment in the EV charging network.

Coorong District Council’s Mayor Paul Simmons looks forward to the project’s construction.

“EV vehicles are rapidly becoming more popular and affordable for Australian families. We welcome new RAA EV charging sites in three of our towns, and their potential to encourage visitors to stop, stay and explore a little longer”, says Mayor Simmons.

To support the EV charging sites proposed to be constructed within the Coorong district, community feedback is being sought regarding the Council’s intention to lease land at Meningie and Tailem Bend for a period of twenty years, and provide a (maximum) five-year permit to use road reserve for business purposes at Coonalpyn to the RAA.

Community Land Management Plans at Meningie and Tailem Bend are also required to be drafted or amended to enable the leasing of community land to the RAA.

Feedback is now invited from the community, and consultation will remain open until 9am on Monday, 26 February 2024.

Copies of the site plans and detail design are available to view on Coorong District Council’s website and at each Council office (Meningie, Tintinara and Tailem Bend).

Feedback is welcomed through the following methods:
