Coorong District Council is seeking community feedback on the draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan titled “Inclusive Coorong – Creating thriving and inclusive communities”.

The Plan provides direction to Council in what needs to be undertaken over the coming 4 years to support and promote access and inclusion, ensuring all members of the community have the best opportunities to participate in community life.

The Disability Inclusion Act 2018 requires SA councils to create and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan by 31 October 2020, and review the document every four years.

Community members and organisations were invited to provide initial input, which has now been collated and has assisted in developing a range of actions within the draft Plan that are structured around the themes and key priorities of inclusive communities, leadership and collaboration, accessible communities and learning and employment.

Community members with a disability, carers, service providers, organisations and residents are encouraged to provide feedback and give suggestions on the draft Plan.

Community engagement will commence Monday 24 August 2020 and conclude on Friday 18 September 2020. Copies of the draft Plan are available for inspection at each of Council’s customer service centres and on Council’s website.

Feedback can be provided by completing an online submission form, or written submissions addressed to Coorong District Council.

Once feedback has been received from the community the Plan will be finalised and presented to the 20 October Council meeting for endorsement, and then submitted to the Department of Human Services along with being published on Council’s website.
