Sale of Surplus Land - Tenth Street, Tailem Bend

Community and residents were invited to provide comment about the proposed sale of surplus land at Tenth Street, Tailem Bend.

Consisting of 10,000 square metres, the land was previously home to the Tailem Bend Tennis Club who have recently relocated to Jaensch Park, and is now considered vacant land and surplus to Council’s needs.

In order to dispose of Council-owned land, community engagement is required to assist in gauging the community’s thoughts and to guide the Council in making a final decision.

An Options Paper has been developed to assist both the community and Council to understand the opportunities arising from the proposed sale of land.

These opportunities include:

  • selling the block as it is,
  • dividing the block and selling allotments,
  • working with a not-for-profit housing developer to develop affordable housing, or
  • retaining the land as open recreation space for community use.

Feedback was invited from the community, from 27 November 2023 until 5pm on Friday, 5 January 2024.

A further report will be presented to Council in February 2024 summarising community feedback and guiding Council in making a final decision.
